AATMA Performing Arts is an acclaimed dance company that stands at the unique intersection of traditional Indian performance and modern movement. Founded by Amit Shah, the company has found a delicate balance in fusing Indian classical and folk dance with Western disciplines. AATMA has received international acclaim and media attention in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Epitomized in praise from Bollywood icon Farah Khan—“their choreography is even better than the film”—AATMA blends the colorful experiences of the Indian diaspora to create products coined as “visually grand and dynamic” and “a kaleidoscope of colour and beauty” by publications such as The New York Times, The Star-Ledger, and various other global publications.
AATMA’s dance company has opened for Carrie Underwood and John Legend as well as headlined performances for several Fortune 100 companies (Bank of America, PepsiCo, MetLife, Walt Disney). The company has performed alongside Priyanka Chopra, A.R. Rahman, Jonita Gandhi, Neeti Mohan and has been featured on Netflix, Food Network, NBC, The Today Show, HBO, and Bravo.
Its international Indian dance spectacle, Mystic India: The World Tour has sold out hundreds of venues throughout four continents and has been seen by over HALF A MILLION people worldwide. The show was voted “The Must-See Show of the Season” in 2013 by City and Shore Magazine.
AATMA’s award-winning dance institution prioritizes giving its students a well-rounded education in Indian and American culture through dance, building on the various specialties of its growing company. Amit Shah is the Founder & Creative Director of AATMA Performing Arts and Mystic India: The World Tour. He is known for his innovative eye and attention to detail as he combines his experience in theatre, visual arts, and dance to serve as a compelling force in the entertainment industry. Amit’s unique style merges strength and sensuality, while his perception of choreography and production combines both a dancer’s emotions and an audience’s virtual experience. He is also the costume and set designer for all of his productions.
Amit’s work has been featured globally on stage and received tremendous accolades with the media worldwide. He has worked alongside Bollywood titans Priyanka Chopra, A.R. Rahman, Jonita Gandhi, Neeti Mohan, and assisted in choreography on Bollywood film sets with Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Genelia D’Souza and Shahrukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment. He has choreographed for Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas, Netflix’s Brown Nation, NBC’s New Amsterdam, and the IIFA Awards.
